What you should know about the British Airways hack
British Airways (BA) announced that hackers obtained the credit card details of about 380 000 BA travellers during a breach this summer, making them vulnerable to financial fraud. Travellers who booked on the company website or mobile app from 21 August until 5 September may have been affected, which includes bookings for domestic flights operated by Comair via the BA.com website.
Some of the details obtained include names, addresses, credit card numbers, expiry dates of cards and the CVC code on the back of the card. You can read more about the hack here.
BA has told Traveller24 that "all customers who were affected have been contacted by email and we will continue to keep them updated".
In the meantime, it is advised to monitor bank and credit card statements if you fall under the affected travellers, and consult with your bank. There might also be an increase in phishing scams where the hackers will use the stolen information to pose as the targeted victims' banks.
BA has also indicated that it will compensate those who have lost money.
