British couple die after buggy falls 700ft into ravine on Greek island of Santorini


A British couple have died on the Greek island of Santorini after their buggy plunged from a mountain, fire services in Greece has confirmed. A man and a woman, both aged 26, fell into a nearly-700ft ravine while driving on the Profitis Ilias mountain on Sunday.



A spokesman at the Greek fire service’s headquarters in Athens said firefighters were called to an incident on the Profitis Ilias mountain at 2.27pm on Sunday. Eight firefighters and two vehicles attended the scene, with the fire service response finishing at 2.36am on Monday.
The peak of the mountain is the highest point on the island, which is popular with British holidaymakers. Rescue workers initially struggled to reach the couple in the remote area of the mountain. They were later declared dead at the scene and their bodies have since been removed.
