Manchester City star Sterling wins PFA Young Player of the Year

Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling has been recognized by his peers as the winner of the PFA Young Player of the Year award. It's the first time Sterling, a three-time nominee for the PFA's honor for players who began the season 23 years old or younger, has won the accolade.
The pacey attacker beat out teammate Bernardo Silva, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Bournemouth newcomer David Brooks.
It's probably not the individual distinction the 24-year-old desired most, losing out to Virgil van Dijk for the Player of the Year nod.
With two matches to play in the league, City sit atop the standings in part because of Sterling's consistent displays. The England international has compiled 17 goals and 10 assists in 31 outings; both metrics sit one short of the career highs he posted last season.
That's now two on the spin for City after Leroy Sane won the award last season. Presented every year since the 1973-74 campaign, the accolade is bestowed based on a vote by the members of the players' union.
