Band-Aid launches ‘black’ plasters in some countries
Last month, Band-Aid launched plasters and bandages in a wider range of colours to better accommodate a diverse range of skin tones. The brand said it wants to "embrace the beauty of diverse skin," and created four new shades of its bandages to uphold that goal.
A spokesperson for Band-Aid, which is owned by Johnson & Johnson, told Business Insider SA that the new skin-tone plasters are being launched first in the US and Canada. It will be evaluated for launch in other markets.
Elastoplast, another major supplier of bandages and plasters in South Africa, was asked whether it has similar plans, but it did not respond to queries. Earlier this year, the UK grocery giant Tesco also announced a new plaster range to suit different skin colours. It called on its competitors to also take this “important step”.
