Don’t flush your goldfish down the toilet

Environmental officers in Canada are urging people not to release their pet goldfish into the wild because they are surviving and multiplying at an alarming rate. A number of goldfish the size of a dinner plate were found in the province of Alberta earlier this year which means they are reproducing and getting quite large in the wild.

The government in Alberta province where the giant goldfish have invaded says, the problem stems from people flushing their pet fish down the toilet.
CBC originally reported that officials wanted people to stop flushing the fish down the toilet, but later corrected the story to say they are focusing on fish being released directly into waterways
Goldfish are considered an invasive species in Canada, and the government is worried they could upset fragile local ecosystems.
