John Lord, 86 went missing from his home in St Ann’s on Moday, 6 April just six days after his wife of 63-years, June, died from a ‘catastrophic bleed’ to the brain. The only clue he left with family members was a note describing how much he missed his wife and saying he ‘couldn’t leave without her’. A search and rescue team was launched by the Nottingham Police. Nine days later two members of the public had been traveling along the River Trent on their boat when they discovered a body floating face-down in the river.
John’s body was discovered in a river close to the bridge which had been the couple’s ‘special place’ at about 11am on April 15 by Nottinghamshire Police’s Underwater Search Unit.

The coroner recorded verdict of suicide by drowning at inquest in Nottingham. The Nottinghamshire coroner Mairin Casey said, : 'In these circumstances there was no mental health history.
'I am clear in my mind that at the time of his death, Mr Lord wasn't under the influence of any substance that would affect his thinking or behaviour.
'I'm mindful of the fact he was very recently bereaved and did leave a note to his family, in which he bid farewell and stated an intention to take his own life.'

  2. Yeah. He probably would have died of heartache otherwise.
