Ritualistic killing of Florida family

A mother and her two sons were brutally murdered in what has been described as a ‘ritualistic killing’. All three victims were struck multiple times with a claw hammer and their throats were slit. Voncile Smith, 77, Richard Smith, 49, and John Smith, 47 had lived in their Pensacola home for years and had little, if any contact with their neighbors. They weren’t said to be quiet, but reclusive.

The suspected ritual killing may likely be connected with the recent blue moon and to occult practices, police have said. “The method of the murder — blunt force trauma, positioning of the bodies — and our person of interest has some ties to a faith or religion that is indicative of that,” Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said at a news conference on Tuesday. He added that the time of death “coincides with what’s referred to as blue moon, which occurs every three years.”
The blue moon, a rare second full moon in a single month, occurred on Friday, July 31. While the bodies were discovered that day in the home, authorities believe the killings occurred three days before.
According to Morgan, the police had interviewed a person of interest who was known to the family. Relatives said a third son was questioned
