Oscar Pistorius’ parole on hold

The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services has suspended the decision to grant Oscar Pistorius parole and place him on house arrest until the matter is reviewed. The ministry stated that Adv Michael Masutha received a petition on Monday from the Progressive Women’s’ Movement of South Africa (PWMSA), wherein they expressed their opposition to the imminent release of Pistorius.
In the statement, Minister Masutha said he had to satisfy himself that the correctional supervision and parole board decision and the process followed was in compliance with the law, regardless that the petition to release Pistorius could not be legally sustained, the eNCA reports.
Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison on the 21st of October, 2014 for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
