Six die as learner fails to yield at intersection


A driver was guilty of speeding through a stop-street without yielding, thus colliding with a truck at high speed and leaving six people dead and three injured. It was gathered that he was having only a learner’s driving license . The incident happened at the Drie¬fontein turn-off between Lady¬smith and Newcastle, Pietermaritzburg. According to the police, the deceased died on impact and they happen to be occupants of the driver’s vehicle.
Acting MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Sibongiseni Dhlomo on Wednesday expressed his “shock” after learning of the incident.
“Respecting road rules is a sure way to saving lives on our roads”, Dhlomo said.
