Woman’s joy cut short as she was being told her $8.5M jackpot win at casino was due to machine malfunction

An Oregon woman thought she won $8 million while playing a slot machine at a Washington casino, only to walk away with a measly $80 after officials told her the machine malfunctioned. Veronica Castillo’s emotional rollercoaster at the Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester left the mortgage loan officer feeling hoodwinked.
"I felt insulted. I felt cheated,” Castillo told NBC affiliate KGW.
“I was very disappointed, very upset and then I started to think about all the people there, and then I got angry."
Castillo had plunked down about $100 on a video game called Jurassic Riches when the machine showed her winnings skyrocketing into the stratosphere. The figure kept climbing until it showed Castillo had won more than $8.5 million. But the casino said the game only offered a maximum jackpot of $20,000.
"The win claimed by Ms. Castillo is not legally or practically possible on the machine," said spokesman Joseph Dupuis.

Castillo is pursuing a lawsuit.
“To me, it’s cheating, may even be fraudulent,” Castillo said. “My first thought was, how many people has this happened to? They think they won, then going away empty-handed.”
The Washington State Gambling Commission regulates some casino games on tribal lands but not Jurassic Riches, the Oregonian newspaper reported.
Agency spokeswoman Susan Newer told the paper that an agent assigned to the casino reported that the game had acted "odd" before "spinning backwards."
