Police arrest 31 university cult members during initiation


Thirty one suspected cult members have been arrested by the operatives of the Imo State Police Command after a gun duel between the police and the undergraduates. PUNCH Metro gathered that the alleged cultists were students of the Imo State University, Owerri, Nigeria. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, said that the suspects were nabbed at Orji Comprehensive Secondary School in the Owerri North Local Government Area of the state during initiation.
He gave the names of some of the alleged cultists as Okafor Anyanwu, Chimezie Nwanezi, Umeh Chimezie, Obiji Obumneke, Ubani Lawrence, Okpara Chimezie.  Others were Amouha Ikenna, Njoku Chidi , Ajaegbu Gabriel Golden, Alaforo Walter, Akpasuo Chimereijem, Okpara Jude Chijike, Ukachi Samuel,  Christus Okerie,and Gaboh Lucky.
According to Enwerem, the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, who coordinated the operation, said the police would fight cultism in the state. The PPRO said the CP had ordered that the suspected cult members be charged to court at the end of the investigations. The CP, who later spoke to our correspondent on the telephone, said the suspected cult members shot one of his men during the operation.
