An elderly woman suffered serious injuries after falling into a hole in the ground while texting on her phone, according to police in New Jersey. The Plainfield Police Department said that the 67-year-old woman was walking on the street on Thursday around 12:00 p.m., and did not notice that doors on the ground were open. The woman, who was not identified, was texting on her phone when she tripped over the open doors on Somerset Street. As a result, she fell into the hole on the ground in front of Acme Windows. She fell down six feet and suffered serious injuries.

According to the police investigation, the floor doors were open as crew was working on gas lines in the area. The woman rushed to a hospital, where she is said to be in serious, but stable condition.
