Woman finds her long-lost sister is actually her next-door neighbour

After learning she had a sister, an American woman embarked on a years-long search for her – only to discover her sibling was right under her nose. Hilary Harris (31) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin found out in 2012 that she had a sister while going through her adoption records. Hilary, who had been adopted as a baby, had spent seven years looking for her biological family without success, when Dawn Johnson (50) moved in next door, ABC News reports.

Hilary came to know Dawn in passing, and the women would say hello whenever they ran into each other. But Hilary’s daughter Stella (5) immediately took a liking to the next door neighbor and would often run over to play, according to Mail Online. The woman were oblivious to their connection, until a package arrived for Dawn, and Hilary caught a glimpse of the woman’s surname. Johnson – the same as her sister.
Eventually, Hilary plucked up the courage to ask Dawn about her family, confirming they had the same father, Wayne Clouse, who passed away in 2010.
“It was overwhelming to say the least,” Hilary told ABC News. “It was a lot to take in.”
Dawn was equally shocked at the discovery.
“It’s such a weird coincidence. Of all the hundreds of thousands of homes we bought a house that shares a driveway with my sister,” she told the New York Post.
Hilary is over the moon to have finally found Dawn and the two are spending plenty of time together, getting to know each other.
“I love that she is kind and caring. I love that she loves me,” Hilary says. “I love that she is my sister and gives me advice. I love everything about her.”
